When the 2025 wildfires hit Los Angeles, thousands of residents needed to navigate a maze of federal, state, and local assistance programs simultaneously. In partnership with Mayor Bass's office, the Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles, and Imagine LA, I personally delivered the core backend and deployment for the LA Disaster Relief Navigator—launched within weeks of the disaster.
The system integrated dozens of agency resources into a single experience, generating personalized action plans based on each resident's specific situation. It was covered by the Los Angeles Times and cited in the Mayor's press release at launch.
Replaced paper notes across partner organizations. AWS Imagine Grant recipient.
Case managers working with unhoused Angelenos were logging interactions on paper, making service coordination across organizations nearly impossible. I co-architected and shipped a HIPAA-certified React Native mobile app with a Django + Strawberry GraphQL backend on AWS Fargate—built through direct field pilots with the outreach workers who use it daily.
I led the effort to secure the AWS Imagine Grant "Momentum to Modernize" award, co-authoring the technical proposals that funded continued development. The platform is now being architected for official city and county adoption at the June 2026 budget reset.
Natural language search over thousands of LA municipal documents. Live at data.solidangle.net.
Tracking an issue through LA City Council meant sifting through thousands of PDFs, YouTube transcripts, and disconnected public databases. I built SolidAngle Data to fix that—an independent civic intelligence platform that aggregates unstructured municipal data and makes it searchable and understandable.
The platform covers legislative tracking with full-text and natural-language queries, AI Q&A with citations, campaign finance data from LA Ethics, California SoS, and the FEC, and a housing dashboard tracking RSO inventory changes by district. The campaign finance engine uses probabilistic entity resolution to cross-reference local donors against federal FEC records, surfacing national political footprints and multi-hop PAC funding chains.
Chronic Kafka instability eliminated. ~$1.5M recovered in annual cloud spend.
A high-growth media platform was hemorrhaging cloud budget and experiencing chronic instability in its Kafka infrastructure—neither problem had a clear owner. I embedded as Lead SRE, diagnosed the root causes of both, and drove the fixes.
By identifying and resolving chronic Kafka instability issues and auditing cloud resource utilization, I provided engineering leadership with clear visibility into spend patterns and delivered targeted optimization recommendations that reduced annual cloud expenditure by approximately $1.5M.
